Louisville River City

Louisville is known as the largest city in Kentucky in the United States. At present, this city is more famous for the Kentucky Derby, which is the widely reviewed first race of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. The architecture of this city is a blend of old and new. The old city neighborhood is known for it is one of the largest historic preservation districts with Victorian houses in the US. Louisville is home to many annual cultural events and festivals. The most well known festival is the Kentucky Derby, which is held during the first Saturday in the month of May. The festival is a two week long event and starts with the Thunder Over Louisville, which is the largest annual fireworks display in the nation. In the Derby fest, there are many events held like the Great Steamboat Race, the Pegasus Parade, the Great Balloon Race, and many such events. Other significant festivals include the Humana Festival of New American Plays, the Beatles Festival, the Kentucky Shakespeare festival and many such festivals. Louisville experiences a humid subtropical climate with around four seasons. Spring begins from mid to late March and summer arrives from mid to late May to late September. There are occasional instances of tornadoes during early spring and late fall. The winter season brings with it a blend of rainfall, snow and rare instances of heavy snowfall and icing. The summers are hot and humid with long periods. Spring and summer are the wettest seasons with constant rainfall throughout the year. The month of January is the coldest with almost 0.6 degree Celsius and the month of July is the warmest month with 25.8 degree Celsius.

Louisville is home to the Magazine Street Church which is known as the oldest African American Seventh day Adventist congregation. It is also home to the historic Christ Church Cathedral covering the west side of the state. There is also a temple known as the Louisville Kentucky Temple which is the 76th temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day Saints. This city is known for the fifth largest hot air balloon festival in the nation, which is the Bluegrass Balloon Festival held in the month of September. During this event, there are early morning balloon races and balloon glows in the evenings. The city is witness to the first public viewing place of the light bulb by Edison, is the place where the first library got opened to the African Americans in the south, and also the place where medical advances took place like the first human hand transplant. Other than that, this city is also the first ever city to have self contained artificial heart transplant and the site of development of the first cervical cancer vaccine too.
